Nathan Cobb Shipwreck Ormond Beach

December 5, 1986 the Nathan F. Cobb washed ashore during a Nor’easter in Ormond Beach. A rescue effort was set in motion saving the remaining crew but resulted in the death of Freed Waterhouse. A monument was dedicated to Mr. Waterhouse in 1897 and now resides at the Ormond Beach Firehouse located at Fire Station 91, at 364 S. Atlantic Avenue in  Ormond Beach.  The wreck occurred near the 600 block of S. Atlantic and is marked with a sign on the beach to warn swimmers of the wreckage. It is said that the outline of the hull of the ship can still be seen during low tide.
