Daytona Beach Information

The Greater Daytona Beach Halifax Area has a rich heritage full of excitement and prestige. From the early stages of auto racing on the beach, where NASCAR formed its roots, to Bike Week, one of the largest motorcycle enthusiast gatherings in the Nation, the Daytona Beach Area has claimed fun in the sun for many generations.  Daytona Beach is also home to the Daytona International Speedway, Ladies Professional Golf Association, The US Tennis Association and supports the Daytona Cubs, a class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Visitors to our area will find so much more to do than just spend another day at the beach.  The Greater Daytona Beach Halifax Area offers inshore and offshore fishing, diving, sailing, surfing, golfing (over a dozen local courses), tennis, kayaking, skydiving, biking, concerts, museums and live theater productions at the Daytona Playhouse.  For those who like to beat the odds, the Daytona Beach Kennel Club offers dog racing, card and other table games.  There is even a waterpark across the street from the beach. Daytona Lagoon is a fun place to take the kids for the afternoon for a change of pace from the beach.  If you are interested in marine life and our local ecology, you won’t want to miss the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. Just a short drive South of Daytona Beach on A1A, the Marine Science Center houses and rehabs injured marine animals and local wildlife.

Of course with all of this fun to be had, a great place to grab a bite to eat will certainly be on the agenda sooner than later. Daytona Beach offers a wide variety of dining delicacies from which to choose. Seafood and sushi to steaks and burgers and everything in between can be found in a price range to fit anyone’s budget.  Gene’s Steakhouse West of town on International Speedway Blvd. has been a locals’ favorite for over twenty years.  Takaya Japanese Steakhouse in Ormond Beach is great for Japanese style stir fry and awesome sushi.

Daytona Beach has been and continues to be the place for friends and family to relax and enjoy a host of indoor and outdoor activities with great weather and beautiful surroundings that make one want to plan a permanent vacation in our area.  For history buffs, please visit the Halifax Historical Society Museum on Beach Street in Downtown Daytona Beach.  And, if you enjoy boating or sailing, our municipal marina, Halifax Harbor, is just down the street from the museum.

Some annual events include the Turkey Rod Run over the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, The Daytona 500 and the Coke 400, Biketoberfest in October and Bike Week in the Spring. During Bike week, there are motorcycle races in the dirt and on the track. If art is more to your liking the Halifax River Art Show is held on Beach Street in downtown Daytona Beach every Fall.

As much fun in the sun as our area has to offer, not everyone can play all of the time.  Some people discover our area when they come to further their education.  The Greater Daytona Beach Halifax Area offers four universities in our region. Embry Riddle Aeronautical University is widely recognized as one of the finest aeronautical universities in the United States.  Stetson University is a well known private college in DeLand, Bethune Cookman College established in 1943 by Mary McLeod Bethune is located in Daytona Beach along with Daytona State College and the Daytona Beach campus of the University of Central Florida. Our area even offers one of the finest vocational schools in the Southeast.  The Daytona Beach campus of Wyotech provides repair training in automotive technology, auto body, diesel, HVAC, chassis fabrication, high performance engines, street rod and custom designs Many  graduates continue to live and work within our community.  Other local industries that offer opportunities for employment and advancement include healthcare, construction, tourism, hospitality, education, transportation, and professional.
